Alphonso Davies' season with Bayern Munich could be over soon after the left-back suffered another injury that will keep him out for several weeks. The news has been confirmed by the Bavarian club, raising questions about his fitness for the World Cup.
At the press conference before the match against Wolfsburg, coach Vincent Kompany initially appeared reserved about the player's condition.
" The images will show how long he will actually be out ," Kompany said, without revealing further details about the nature of the injury.
Following examinations by Bayern's medical staff, the club announced that the Canadian international will be out for several weeks. This means that Davies risks missing not only the match against Wolfsburg, but also the final Bundesliga match against Cologne, as well as the German Cup final against Stuttgart on May 23.
Davies was the only change to Bayern's starting lineup after the match against PSG, with Konrad Laimer taking his place on the left wing.
This new injury is also expected to affect his preparations for the World Cup, where Canada aims to emerge as one of the surprises of the tournament. Davis is considered the main leader of the Canadian national team, but recurring physical problems have raised serious concerns.
During the 2024-2025 season, he suffered several muscle injuries, while earlier he had also suffered from a ligament tear. This season too, the 24-year-old has faced thigh strain and other physical problems that have affected his continuity.
The Canadian Federation reacted immediately after the news, confirming cooperation with the German club for the player's recovery.
" We are in constant contact with Alfonso and are cooperating with Bayern's medical staff following this latest issue ," the Canadian Federation said in a statement.
" Our focus is to support his recovery and provide him with all possible resources, including specialist muscle injury experts, so that he can return to his best form before the World Cup ."
Canada is in Group B at the World Cup, where they will face Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland and Qatar. There is a belief within the Canadian camp that the team has real potential to advance past the group stage, although Davis' fitness remains a major concern.
