Legendary Kosovar judoka, Nora Gjakova, has ended her sports career, closing one of the most successful chapters in the history of Albanian sports.

Through an emotional message, Gjakova announced that on the last day of 2025 she decided to end her 23-year journey in the sport of judo, a journey that, according to her, has been her "whole life" so far.

" I grew up and breathed the sport of judo and I am happy to have lived my dream ," writes the Olympic champion, emphasizing that the challenges, losses and victories will remain unforgettable memories that have shaped her as an athlete and as a person.

Nora Gjakova is considered one of the most successful Albanian athletes of all time, with the pinnacle of her career being the title of Olympic Champion in 2021, a historic achievement for Kosovo and Albanian sports.

In her message, she expressed special gratitude to her family who supported her in her first steps, to coach Driton Kuka, who guided her to the Olympic summit, as well as to her friends and colleagues at the Ippon Club in Peja for their continued support over the years.

Gjakova also thanked the state of Kosovo for the honor and pride it gave her by representing it in the international arena, as well as all Albanians everywhere for their unwavering support.

" I feel fulfilled with everything I have achieved during these 23 years of my career in sports ," she concludes, thanking all those who have stood by her on this extraordinary journey.

The end of Nora Gjakova's career marks the end of a golden era for Kosovar judo, but her legacy will remain an inspiration for future generations of athletes./Zëri
