
The Chinese state has long been waging a war against match-fixing and corruption in football, with severe penalties for those found guilty. Not long ago, former China national team coach Li Tie was sentenced to 20 years in prison for corruption.
Today, two former senior officials of the Chinese Football Association were sentenced to prison terms of more than 10 years each, following a court case initiated two years ago.
Liu Jun, the former president of the Chinese Super League, was sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of around 132,000 euros. He is also a well-known name in Europe, as in 2016, Suning appointed him as Inter's delegated administrator for a period of several months. He has been part of the Suning group for many years, having also been the administrator of the Jiangsu Suning club which was later dissolved.
He was also convicted along with Wang Xiaoping, the former head of the Federation's disciplinary committee. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of around 84,000 euros. All were found guilty of taking bribes, although it was never specified what they were.
