Douglas Costa has abruptly ended his career at Sydney FC after legal troubles in Brazil. The Porto Alegre Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant for the former Juventus player, who also saw himself sacked by the Australian club after just 25 games.
The Brazilian striker, 35, was arrested for failing to pay child support, racking up a debt of 492,965 reais (around 80,000 euros). He had a similar problem in 2023, while at Los Angeles Galaxy. Due to the arrest and 30-day prison sentence, Douglas Costa was unable to return to Australia to play.
Sydney FC confirmed: “ The contract was terminated by mutual consent, as the player is unable to travel. Legal and personal problems in his country have prevented him from participating and continuing his career with our team .” Thus, for Douglas Costa, the adventure in Australia ended in the most unexpected and disastrous way possible.
