The first matches of the Champions League quarterfinals have been very important for the next edition of this tournament.

Inter, by defeating Bayern Munich, has made it mathematically impossible for German clubs to secure the points needed to overtake Spain, which holds second place in the provisional season standings.
Thus, the German championship will be represented by only 4 teams in the next edition of this tournament.
The discussion now is which of Spain and Italy will secure second place and fifth place in the Champions League for next season.
And in the meantime, Real Madrid has indirectly done Italian teams a favor.
Its more than likely elimination and the fact that Italian teams are in a favorable position to continue their tournaments in all three competitions in which they participate, give the latter hope of recovering the distance they have with the Spanish teams in the UEFA rankings and snatching fifth place in the photo finish.
