The national team travels to Niš airport on Friday under strict security

On Saturday at 20:45, the Albanian national football team plays against Serbia in Leskovac, a challenge that applies to Group K of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The duel is seen by the two camps as a final, as the result is very important to determine the second-place team in the group.

Albania currently holds second place, but our team has one more game than Serbia and points are vital for the American dream. On the other hand, apart from the field, Serbia is thinking of making the best possible organization, forgetting the evening of October 14, 2014, when Serbian hooligans broke security at the Belgrade stadium, entered the field and raped Albanian footballers.

The red and black national team, led by Silvinjo, gathered in Tirana on Monday, while the day before the match, on Friday, the team is expected to travel on a direct flight from Tirana to the 'Constantine the Great' airport in Niš.

Upon arrival, the red and black team and staff will be escorted under tight security measures by the Serbian police, to check into a hotel between Niš and Leskovac, the city where the match will be played.

On Friday, the team will hold a general training session in 'Duboçica'. At 16:30 on Friday, Silvinjo and probably captain Gjimshiti (or Hysaj, the only one who has been on the team since the Belgrade evening in 2014), will appear before the media.

After 17:00 the team will descend to the field of the 'Duboçica' stadium in Leskovac to conduct general training. The team will be accompanied by the Serbian police throughout the entire itinerary, as well as throughout the entire stay at the hotel.

There is no departure from the hotel for our team on Saturday morning either. In the afternoon, the team will head back to Leskovac for the match that will take place on October 11 at 20:45.

The match was deemed a high-risk match by FIFA, which sent two security officers. In addition to moving the match from Belgrade to Leskovac due to fears of hooligans and the tense political climate, the Serbian Football Federation did not put any tickets on sale.

The 6,500 Serbian fans in Leskovac will be invited and selected, including players from football academies. Serbia is condemned to hold this duel with a 20 percent reduction in stadium capacity.

After five matches in Group K of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, England are top of the table with 15 points, eight ahead of Albania. Serbia are third with seven points, but have one game in hand. Latvia (4 points) and Andorra (0 points) are next.
