Racist anti-Albanian chants were heard last night at the Sports Hall in Kumanovo where the basketball qualifying match between North Macedonia and Romania was taking place. The chants are suspected to have come from a fan group called Kumani.
"Let the damned Albanians understand, the name Macedonia will not disappear. Macedonia, pure. Pure Macedonia. Pure Macedonia."
The hooligans' shouts in the hall were made in the presence of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Stoilkovic, Minister of Interior Pance Toshkovski and the Mayor of Kumanovo, Maksim Dimitrievski.
Despite the fact that in such circumstances, the rules of the sport require that fans be warned and the referee warn of the cancellation of the match, it was clear that the referees: Georgios Poursanidis from Greece, Yeren Yilmaz from Turkey and Ventsislav Velikov from Bulgaria, were not told what chants the hooligans in the hall had made.
The entire scene was broadcast on the official channel of the International Basketball Federation on YouTube./Alsat.mk
