A man has been arrested following a traffic incident near Liverpool city centre, Merseyside Police said. The incident took place on Water Street, where a car is said to have hit several pedestrians.
The incident comes just hours after the start of the grand parade to celebrate Liverpool's 20th title, which drew huge crowds to the city centre.
Authorities remain cautious about the cause of the incident. Police are urging citizens to avoid the area in order to facilitate the work of rescue forces.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo newspaper, a car hit a "crowd of pedestrians" in Liverpool city center during celebrations for the English championship won by the "Reds".
A police spokesman said: “We are currently dealing with reports of a traffic incident in Liverpool city centre. We received a call just after 6pm on Monday 26th May to reports that a car had struck a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car was stopped at the scene and a man was arrested. Emergency services are currently at the scene.”
The ambulance service said it was "currently assessing the situation". "Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical attention they need as quickly as possible," it added.
