Klidman Lilo debuted with the U-21 National Team in November 2022 in a friendly match against Montenegro U-21 and since that day he has become one of the strongest points of Albania U-21.
In the column "Albanian talent", Lilo tells the first steps in football, how his passion for this sport started, why he chose the position as a goalkeeper, how he felt when he wore the red and black jersey of the national team, his goals for the future, Albanian and foreign players that motivates him, as well as his biggest dream with the National team.

Klidman, how did your relationship with football start and when did you think that one day you could become a professional football player?
My connection with football started at the age of 5, deeply inspired by my father who had a passion for this sport. He was the one who encouraged me to explore football. My father always supported me and let me make my own decisions and learn from my mistakes. It was this combination of guidance and freedom that allowed me to discover my love for the game. As I grew older and my skills developed, I began to realize that with dedication and hard work, I could turn my passion into a professional career.
Who is the person who pushed you towards this sport and tell us a little about the first steps of your career?
The man who pushed me towards football was definitely my father. His encouragement and belief in my abilities were essential in my early development. He never forced me, but gently nudged me towards the game, making sure I had the space to find my way. My career steps included joining a local youth team where I developed my skills and learned the importance of teamwork and discipline. The support from my family, combined with the guidance of my coaches, provided a solid foundation for my career. The early years were filled with hard work, lessons and a growing love for the game.
Your position is goalkeeper, why this choice and did you play in another position at the beginning of your career?
I chose to be a goalkeeper because I was attracted to the challenges and responsibilities that come with this position. The idea of being the last line of defense, the one who could change the outcome of a game with a single save, was incredibly appealing to me. Initially, I played in other positions to gain a full understanding of the game, but after one particular match where I played as a goalkeeper, I realized that my skills and instincts were better suited to the role of a goalkeeper. The idea of making decisive saves and the respect I had for the great goalkeepers of the time consolidated my choice.
How did you feel when you first received the invitation from Albania U21? What do you remember from the gathering and the first game?
Receiving the invitation from the U21 team of Albania was a moment of great pride and joy for me. I felt like all the work and sacrifices were starting to pay off. My first match was a mixture of beautiful emotions. Going out on the field, wearing the National colors, was a surreal experience. It was an unforgettable moment that strengthened my commitment to the sport and my desire to achieve the highest standards.
How would you rate your personal performance in the last season and where do you see yourself in the future?
Last season was an important moment in my career. Being part of the first team as the third goalkeeper was a big step forward. Training with a great coach like Fatih Terim was an invaluable experience. His knowledge, confidence and guidance helped me grow as a player and as a person. I learned a lot about discipline, persistence and the importance of always aiming for excellence. Looking forward, I see myself continuing to develop my skills and working hard to become the best version of myself. I believe in my abilities, but even more in my work ethic and determination to succeed.
What can you highlight so far from your football life? Is there an achievement you are proud of?
The highlight of my football life so far has been being part of the first team and representing my country with the National U-21 team of Albania. Being included in the squad for the Europa League and Champions League matches was an incredible experience. These moments are not only personal achievements, but also moments that remind me of how far I've come and motivate me to aim higher. I am proud of these achievements as they reflect the hard work, dedication and support of everyone who has been a part of my journey.
Who is the Albanian player who motivates you the most and who you consider a role model? What about a foreign player?
The Albanian player who motivates me is Thomas Strakosha. His way, dedication and professionalism are qualities that I admire. He sets a high standard that I strive to achieve in my career. As far as a foreign player goes, Manuel Neuer has always been my role model. His exceptional talent, innovative approach to the goalkeeping position and leadership on and off the pitch have profoundly influenced my playing style.
What is your biggest dream with the Albanian national team as a footballer?
My biggest dream with the Albanian National Team is to participate in the final stage of a big tournament like the European Championship. To see our National team compete at that level this year was incredibly inspiring. This fueled my ambition and made me dream of being a part of such a historic moment. I want to help our team reach new heights and make our fans proud in the international arena. It would be a dream come true to represent Albania in such a prestigious tournament and contribute to our success.
