The boxing world is in mourning after the shocking news of the passing of Mexican boxer Pedro Antonio "Toni" Rodriguez, just hours after the end of his last fight in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 37-year-old had lost by unanimous decision after six rounds to undefeated 21-year-old talent Filip Vela, in an event organized by Del Sol Boxing Promotions.
After the confrontation, Rodriguez returned to the hotel and planned to go out for dinner. Tragically, he was found dead in his hotel room the next morning by staff. The cause of death remains unclear, and police have launched an investigation.
His wife, who had communicated with him via video call after the match, stated: " He told me he was going to buy something for dinner and come back. I don't know what happened after that ..."
His opponent, Filip Vela, reacted with sadness on social media: " I am deeply saddened. Rest in peace, champion ."
Even the event organizers expressed their sorrow for the sudden loss: " The Del Sol boxing family is shocked. Our hearts go out to his loved ones ."
This tragic incident has once again brought attention to the dangers of the sport of boxing and the importance of monitoring the health of athletes after difficult bouts in the ring.
