
A serious incident has hit Serbian football and the great club Crvena Zvezda. Former captain and midfielder of the Serbian national team, Dejan Milovanovic, has died at the age of 41 during a match between veterans in Belgrade.
According to local media, Milovanovic was preparing to take a corner kick when he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed on the pitch. He suffered a double heart attack and despite the rapid intervention of doctors, his life could not be saved.
The Red Star club reacted with a message of condolence:
" Dejan was more than a footballer. A boy who grew up in our academy, a captain and a great friend, who left an indelible mark on his teammates and fans. He will be remembered as a cheerful, dedicated and always ready to help man. His untimely departure has created a huge void in our family ," the club's statement said.
Milovanovic, who had passed all the age groups of Crvena Zvezda, after the end of his active career continued to be part of the club's activities together with the veterans.
