Myrto Uzuni has started the championship in the best way in MLS, scoring 4 goals and giving 4 more assists in the first 10 games of the championship. In an interview given to FSHF TV, on the show "In the House of Football", Uzuni spoke about the American adventure while also stopping at the National Team and the January transfer market where he revealed the behind-the-scenes.
How is your career going in America?
It's true that I've started very well. Last year I wasn't at the level I saw myself at. I have 4 goals and 4 assists in the first 10 games and I'm very happy with this performance.
How was the transfer from Europe to America?
It was a little difficult because the culture is different. I came from the second league like Granada and La Liga. I was in a team that suited me and I was scoring goals. I came to a team like Austin, with a different mentality and I'm happy to have found myself.
Albania's presence in America?
To be honest, at the game in Toronto it felt like I was on "Air Albania." In every game I play away and at home, there are Albanian flags and it's a good thing that they never forget Albania.
It has been a successful year for the National Team. How do you rate it overall?
Aman, please don't remind us. It's true and I believe we all agree that the National Team has achieved. Going to the Play Offs is not easy. We did our best and had good matches with Serbia both in Tirana and there. It wasn't easy and it was our goal.
You are one of the most important people on the team. How did you see yourself?
Normally I'm happy because for a footballer it's the biggest achievement to represent the Nation and I think it's the biggest achievement to play for Albania. I've always tried to give my best because we strikers have the ego to score, while for the National Team I gave 120% even when I didn't score.
Since we didn't make it in March, what goal have you set for yourself in the coming months for Albania?
Really, as I said, playing with Albania is the biggest achievement and a dream. For me personally, I get goosebumps when I wear that jersey and that's important. The European Championship is the objective but I've played at high levels facing Messi and Ronaldo. I want to be in that team that makes me the happiest person.
Remind me of some of the most beautiful moments in 2025 with Albania.
For me, the most important thing and the one that made me feel very happy is every match, but I highlight the match in Serbia and the one in Andorra where I gave the assist that qualified us for the "Play Off".
What about the moment when you said "Yes, we can do it"?
The most difficult match was the one we played against Latvia, when we drew away. I could see that we were demoralized, but internally, we said that we could do it.
What is the atmosphere like in the National Team?
The atmosphere is very good, the group is very good and the quality is there. There is always room for improvement and we have to push ourselves to our limits. Playing for the National Team is a dream.
They are playing friendlies with Israel and Luxembourg where there will be tests. What do you think about these two matches?
I know there are two friends. The door of the National Team is open to any player who does well in any league like in Albania and it is a very good moment for all the players who have received the invitation. Every coach wants the best for the team and wants the best players.
Career from Croatia to Hungary, Spain and America. Have you considered returning to Europe?
It's true that I had a very good offer from Trabzonspor with Ernest Muçi there and I could play with him because I had him at Ferencvaros. It was closed as a transfer and it broke down in a matter of 10 minutes. The coach wanted me to cry and I talked to them. I talked to my club, to the president and the offer was very high, almost as much as Austin bought me from Granada.
Do you have any mortgages that you didn't transfer?
In football you never know. Today you are here and tomorrow you don't know where you are. Now I am very happy in Austin and people have started to support me a lot. It is difficult to have support. In America it is difficult. When you come as a "star", people expect a lot and expect you to be Messi or Ronaldo, but that's where the trust falls and you need a lot of players like stars. It was a difficult moment but now I have found myself.
Messi and Ronaldo, you've faced both. What makes them special, have you had contact with them?
How are these two football stars? I played against Messi and Ronaldo and I was among the best on the field in both matches. It was me, Morata and Ronaldo the players of the match. I was one of the 3 best in this match too. It is another motivation to play against those you have seen on TV lifting trophies and the Cup. It was, after the National Team, the biggest achievement for me at the club level. To be honest, I am a fan of Ronaldo and I have not communicated with Messi. I am a traditional fan of Ronaldo. I did not ask for his shirt.
