
Luiza Gega placed eighth in the 3000 meters steeplechase final, held this evening in Budapest, Hungary. Although not in optimal shape, due to an injury before the start of the world championship, the red and black athlete first managed to reach the final and then put on a good performance even among the best.
Gega was classified in eighth place among 15 finalists, giving a time of 9'10”27. This is the best seasonal time of the Albanian athlete, losing the seventh place by only 1 thousandths more than the rival from Uganda.
The winner of the gold medal in this final was the athlete Winfred Javi of Bahrain, with a time of 8'54”29. During the final, the red and black athlete was among the best rivals all the time, while in the middle of the race she lost ground from the leader. In the end, he managed to recover some positions, finishing eighth, although he was aiming for seventh place.
