Yasir Asani has left Iran and is currently safe in Turkey, following the escalation of the security situation in the region. The Albanian national football player was in Tehran when the United States and Israel launched attacks on the Iranian capital on Saturday.
In a public statement, Asani said that his club, Esteghlal FC, has taken all necessary steps to remove him from the conflict zone. He also expressed hope that the situation will calm down and peace will return to the country.
" The club has done everything for me to leave, but despite this difficult situation, I hope that things will calm down and peace will return. I sincerely pray that everything will end as soon as possible, because a country like Iran with such good people who have given me love and respect deserves to live in peace ," Asani wrote.
Another Albanian footballer, Regi Luskja, has also left Iran and, according to sources, is in a safe area.
The current situation has raised questions about the continuation of the Iranian championship and the return of foreign footballers to the country. There is still no official decision on whether Asani and other foreign players will return to continue the season, as everything remains dependent on political and security developments.
Under these circumstances, it is not ruled out that FIFA will allow footballers who play in the Iranian championship to change teams during this phase of the season, although so far there has been no official announcement in this regard.
Asani moved from South Korea to Iran last summer, but his adventure in Iranian football has been cut short due to recent developments. The Persian Gulf region is currently in a tense situation, with reports of missile and drone attacks between countries involved in the conflict.
Due to the security situation, sporting activities in Iran and several Gulf countries have been suspended. The safety of athletes and staff is considered a priority.
Meanwhile, FIFA is closely monitoring developments. Iran, which has secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup to be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico and Canada, is considering the possibility of participating, but no final decision has been made yet.
