The Albanian Football Federation decided that KF Bylis B will return to the Second Category for the 2026-2027 season, following the relegation of the first team of the ballshiot club to the First Category. At the same time, the Executive Committee of the Albanian Football Federation decided that the vacant place in the First Category will be determined through a “play-off” match between KF Kukës and KF Butrint, which will be held on a neutral field.
The decision comes in accordance with Article 24.7 of the Football Activity Regulations, which prohibits the participation of two teams from the same club in the same category. Also, Article 24.8 provides that, when team “A” is relegated to the category where team “B” is, then the second team is automatically relegated one category below.
Because the regulation does not specify the manner in which the vacancy is to be filled in such cases, the matter was referred to the Executive Committee of the Albanian Football Association, based on Article 41 of the Statute of the institution. Following the proposal of the Leagues and Competitions Committee and the Legal Committee, it was decided to hold a single challenge between Kukës and Butrint to determine the team that will play in the First Category next season.
However, just a few minutes after the publication of this decision, KF Butrinti reacted with an official statement, opposing the organization of a "play-off" match against Kukës.
The Sarandë club argues that after the end of the championship it has suffered significant sporting, organizational and financial consequences. According to the club's statement, some of the players have left the team, while the sports structure has been dismantled after the end of the season.
Butrint expresses its reservations about the timing and manner of making the decision, hinting that organizing an additional match at this stage creates difficulties for the club.
Meanwhile, the Albanian Football Association announced that details on the date, time and stadium where the Kukësi-Butrinti match will take place will be published later by the Competitions Department.

KF Butrinti Football Club expresses its full opposition to the decision of the Executive Committee of the Albanian Football Federation to hold a play-off match between KF Kukësi and KF Butrinti to determine the team that will participate in the First Category for the 2026/27 season.
This decision comes at a time when the championship has long since ended and has brought serious sporting, organizational and financial consequences for our club. Many players have left, the team has fallen out of competitive rhythm and unplanned expenses for organizing such a match have increased significantly.
KF Butrinti considers this decision to be unfair and contrary to the principles of sporting equality and legal certainty of the competition. For this reason, the club will pursue all legal and sporting avenues to protect its rights, starting with appealing the decision to the competent bodies of the Albanian Football Association and then, if necessary, the case will be sent to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
