Barcelona and Spain star Lamin Jamal is facing potential legal problems and significant damage to his image following events at his 18th birthday party.
The teenage striker celebrated his birthday over the weekend, with a ceremony attended by around 250 people on Saturday night in a coastal town near Barcelona.
The party took place on Saturday night, just one day before Barcelona's players returned to the training center for the first tests of the preparatory phase.
Some of the team are believed to have left the event early. The party, which was also attended by well-known public figures, has been put under strict surveillance.
The Association for Achondroplasia and Skeletal Dysplasia with Nanosomia (ADEE) has announced that it will take legal action against Lamin Jamal, after the party allegedly employed people with nanosomia (dwarfism) as a form of entertainment — something that is prohibited by law in Spain.
Lamin Jamal posted a video from the party on his social media on Monday afternoon.
Following this announcement by ADEE, the Spanish Government has asked the Public Prosecutor's Office to launch an official investigation into the incident.
According to "Marca", the Ministry of Social Rights has also sent the request to the Office for the Fight against Hate Crimes, in order to assess whether Jamal has violated the law on the rights of persons with disabilities, which prohibits the use of their images for mockery or denigration for entertainment purposes.
The Director General for Disability, Hezus Martín, stated that clarification was sought on whether people with nanosomia were being denigrated.
If the violation is proven, the law provides for heavy fines ranging from 600 thousand to 1 million euros.
Another detail that has attracted attention is the fact that during the same evening, Lamin Jamal commented on actor Peter Dinklage on Instagram, saying: "Check private messages."
