The world of football in Italy is in mourning after the death of Mattia Giani.
The 26-year-old, part of Castelfiorentino felt discomfort in his chest and fell to the ground in the match against Lanciotto, valid for the championship of Tuscany.
The player promoted from the Empoli academy was taken to the hospital, but did not manage to win the battle with his life.
Meanwhile, encouraged by Giani's family members, the Florence Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the death of the 26-year-old.
Giani's father emphasized that there were no doctors and defibrillators on the field, while adding that the ambulance arrived after 15 minutes, but it too had no doctors available.
In an interview with "Corriere della Sera", his father, Sandro Giani, reviews the dramatic moments on the field of Ballerini's stadium in "Campi Bisenzio" and describes a situation of possible negligence:
" I only know that the doctor was not there for this event. The first ambulance arrived without doctors after 15 minutes. And that meanwhile the masseur from Castelfiorentino tried to revive my son and then a spectator working as a nurse came down from the stands to lend a hand.
The defibrillator was there, but was used only by the doctor transported by the second ambulance. Can someone die like this ?".
For its part, the ASL claims that the ambulance arrived in 8 minutes and that the FIGC regulation requires the presence of a doctor on the sidelines.
However, Lancelot disputes these claims, claiming that the doctors were present, despite testimony to the contrary.
In this form, the investigations of the Florence Prosecutor's Office are the ones that will say more and give the official verdict on what happened.
Mattia's family saw the serious event directly. His mother Debora, father Sandro, grandfather Loriano and girlfriend Stefania were present in the stands to watch the match.
Stefania, who had just started living together with Mattia, found herself going from happiness in moving in with the love of her life to the darkest pain: " In life you never know what you will find next to you . Now I find myself a widow ," she told a friend on the phone when all hope had ended for Mattia.
