The lights of the Giuseppe Meazza stadium will be turned on tonight for one of the most important matches of the Serie A season, the derby between Milan and Inter, a challenge that could directly affect the title race.
Inter come into this match as the league leaders, with a 10-point advantage over their city rivals. The Blues aim to confirm their dominance and move even closer to the championship title, recalling the historic moment two years ago, when a 2-1 victory over Milan secured Inter their twentieth title and the second star on their jersey.
However, the balance of recent derbies speaks in favor of the Rossoneri. Since that encounter, Milan has achieved four wins and two draws against Inter. The Rossoneri have also won the last two derbies, while the last time Milan triumphed three times in a row against their city rival dates back to the 2010-2011 season.
On the other hand, Inter are in very good form in the championship. The black and blue team is undefeated in 15 matches, with 14 wins and only one draw. However, one of the most unexpected defeats of the season was precisely the first-leg derby on November 23, won 1-0 by Milan thanks to a goal by Christian Pulisic.
The statistics show Inter's superiority in several aspects of the game this season. The team has only drawn once in the league, is the team with the most goals scored (64) and has also recorded 15 clean sheets. Meanwhile, Milan have stood out for their ability to turn around unfavourable situations, securing 14 points from games where they were at a disadvantage, compared to just three for Inter.
Another interesting statistic is related to the first half of Milan's matches: in 27 weeks of the championship, the Rossoneri have ended the first half in a draw 16 times, around 60 percent of the time.
Individually, Inter are expecting a lot from Federico Dimarco, who has been involved – with goals and assists – in almost a third of the team’s goals. On the other hand, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is relying on the form of Rafa Leao. The Portuguese striker has scored three goals in 21 matches against Inter and is considered one of the Rossoneri’s main weapons to win the derby and keep the race for the “Scudetto” alive.
With both teams coming in good form and with fresh histories of clashes between them, tonight's derby at "Meazza" is expected to be a showdown of great importance for the continuation of the Serie A season.
