The case that highlights three low-level football players, who are accused of gang-raping a female student, is causing great unrest and concern in Italy...
Three footballers are accused of gang rape. The incident is alleged to have taken place during celebrations for the promotion of the Cuneo team to Serie C.
The young woman claims she was abused after going outside, in a case that is being investigated in depth by Italian authorities.
At the center of the investigation is 22-year-old Alessio Rosa, who plays for Ligorna in Serie D, while 23-year-old Fausto Perseu, who continues at Giulianova, and 20-year-old Christ Jesus Mauete, who plays for Livorno, are also being investigated.
The student claims she was intoxicated when she accepted an invitation from Perseu to go to an apartment where the other two defendants were. There, according to her lawsuit, the sexual assault occurred.

The case file also includes audio-visual evidence, with a video allegedly handed over to authorities showing a conversation in which one of the people involved is heard urging him not to talk about what happened.
At the same time, authorities are also investigating allegations that Rosa allegedly recorded and shared photos and videos of the incident through private conversations, an element that weighs on his position.
For their part, defense lawyers reject the accusations, insisting on the innocence of the three footballers, and have already taken legal action requesting an expedited trial of the case.
