The Spanish women's national team player, Jennifer Hermoso, says she felt attacked by the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, who kissed her after the World Cup final.
"I felt violated and the victim of an attack, an impulsive and masculinist action, an inappropriate action without any kind of reconciliation on my part. Simply, I did not respect them", said Hermoso.
Rubiales' action has caused huge controversy in Spain and beyond, as well as calls for his resignation. The Spanish government has started legal proceedings against the 46-year-old, while the house of world football, FIFA, has started disciplinary proceedings against him.
Rubiales has refused to resign in the face of pressure from politicians, players, unions and FIFA after kissing the footballer on the lips after Spain's World Cup victory over England last weekend. He described the kiss as a "free, mutual and consensual" act.
His refusal to resign and his impassioned speech at the emergency assembly of the RFEF provoked a swift reaction from politicians.
"What we have seen today in the assembly of the federation is unacceptable," wrote Spain's second deputy prime minister, Yolanda Diaz, on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter.
Spain's Supreme Sports Council said earlier this week it would take action against Rubiales if the soccer federation did not do so.
Spain beat England 1-0 in the World Cup final, becoming world champions for the first time in the world.
