Marco van Basten caused a media storm with his statements towards Mohamed Salah, already at the center of criticism for the clash with Liverpool coach Arne Slot. Invited to “Ziggo Sport”, the Dutch legend directly attacked the Egypt captain, describing his wrong behavior by saying that he “has the brain of an insect”. This statement immediately made the rounds of the world.
According to Van Basten, Salah is having a season far below his level: " Last season he was exceptional, but in recent months he has given very little. Slot is a direct and honest person, while Salah has started to attack him and behave inappropriately ."
The crisis erupted after three consecutive Premier League benchings. After the third “exclusion”, against Leeds, the Egyptian exploded in front of the media: “ I gave everything for this club and now I end up on the bench without explanation. It seems like someone is going to make me a ‘scapegoat’ for the crisis the team is going through .” The club’s reaction was strong; exclusion from the Champions League transfer against Inter, in line with the tough line of coach Slot.
