Delays in the game are what often ruin the beauty of a football match. And a large part of them come from consecutive injuries, with medical staff entering the field, delaying the restart of the match. FIFA, it seems, has finally found the solution.
According to international media, Pierluigi Collina, who is in charge of refereeing at FIFA, has devised a new rule for cases when players seek medical assistance on the field. FIFA has submitted for approval to IFAB, the organization that sets football regulations, a new rule where it will be mandatory for any player who seeks medical assistance to stay off the field of play for at least 2 minutes after leaving its perimeter.
Goalkeepers are exempt from this rule, but as for the rest, FIFA believes that this will help to prevent cheaters who try to delay the game by faking injuries. They will leave their team with two minutes less of a player, so the number of simulators will be significantly reduced.
The rule will be implemented in several Arab leagues and in MLS next season as a test, but FIFA is considering implementing it worldwide as soon as possible.
