Teachers' Day, March 7, is celebrated today in all Albanian regions.
This day is celebrated in all schools across the country with numerous activities as a sign of gratitude to teachers for the work they do in educating the new generation.
Considered an event of educational and cultural importance, today everyone also remembers the first teachers of Albanian letters.
Teacher's Day is dedicated to the educational staff of schools and universities, and on this day, we all together honor the best traditions of the Albanian national school, as well as the figure of the teacher.
Albanian teachers at all times and in every province have not simply been education professionals, but first and foremost were patriots and emancipated people, humanists and artists of various fields.
In March 1887, the First Albanian School was opened in Korça. Its first teacher and director was Pandeli Sotiri. Among other things, this event was a great victory for the Albanian people, since until then, due to the Ottoman occupation, teaching was done privately inside homes, in secret. So from that day, March 7 is celebrated in Albania as Teacher's Day to commemorate that important cultural and historical event.
The Korça Teacher's College remained open for almost 20 years. Its leaders were well-known figures of the Albanian Renaissance such as: Pandeli Sotiri, Petro Nini Luarasi, Nuçi Naçi, Thoma Avrami, etc. The great contribution that these distinguished patriots and activists made to the nation is evidenced by the ardent desire they had to spread knowledge among the people.
