This Wednesday marks 15 years since the January 21 protest, where four protesters were killed on "Deshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard.
Even though a decade and a half has passed, this case is still in court. Invited to Quo Vadis, hosted by moderator Pranvera Borakaj, Agron Duka, the leader of the PAA, who was among the protesters on January 21, 2011, called for finding the culprits and bringing them to justice.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Borakaj: January 21, 15 years later. It was used by the SP to come to power. Today we are 15 years later and the issue of January 21 is in SPAK?
Duka : I definitely want the culprits to be found, because four people died there. I was at the protest. For me it doesn't matter whether it's Berisha or Rama, but those who are guilty of the loss of four lives must be brought to justice.
Borakaj: Should the organizers be questioned?
Duke: Definitely.
Borakaj: Did you have prior knowledge that the protest would be this violent?
Duka: As I said, I wasn't an organizer, but there was talk in the background that there would be a sustained protest. But that it would escalate to that point was unexpected.
Borakaj: Were you there until the end?
Duka: Yes, I was there. We found out too late that there were casualties. As you saw, they threw gas and we, who were bigger in size, collided.
Borakaj: Where were you specifically?
Duka: I was at Kullat, there was a person my age next to me and he said: "Are you Gon Duka?", I said yes. I thought to myself that they would say: "What is this guy doing here?". We were at a protest in support of the Socialist Party.
Ibraj: You were a member of parliament.
Duka: No, I was not a deputy.
Borakaj: Should the SP have done more?
Duka: Of course, because we gave the people the floor. This leaves you to suspect that even the people who organized the protest, perhaps, had their own sins.
