The number of accidents for the first 8 months of the year has decreased by 14.7 percent compared to the previous year.

The Institute of Statistics published figures for August, showing a lower number of accidents compared to August of the previous year, as well as fewer injuries and fatalities.

"In August 2025, there were 159 road accidents, of which 229 people

are injured (killed and injured). * (The published data is preliminary and subject to update).

"During the period January-August 2025, the number of road accidents decreased by 14.7%, compared to the same period a year earlier," the publication states.

The main reason for accidents seems to remain the careless behavior of drivers behind the wheel, while pedestrians are less likely to cause an accident.

"Road accidents, in 91.2% of cases, occurred as a result of the driver's behavior. The highest number of accidents, in this period, was committed by the 45-59 age group, accounting for 25.8% of the total number of accidents."

In August 2025, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Monday, at 18.2%, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Tuesday, at 11.3%.

"The highest number of road accidents occurred during the time frame 19:00-24:00, accounting for 23.3% of the total number of road accidents," INSTAT noted./Monitor
