Road safety expert Fadil Likaj spoke about the fatal accident in Tepelena, which resulted in the deaths of three young people at the scene and the injury of a 19-year-old woman.
Likaj told "Ora News" that there should have been more emphasis on traffic police.
"Actually, 2026 started worse than anyone could have imagined. Three lives have been lost, three young men. This doesn't happen anywhere in the world.
But the accident is probable, so it happens. I would be very critical about the patrolling and about the progress, it should probably have been done by the traffic police.
Since these interurban road segments are prone to all road users increasing their speed and being careless.
Often in these segments, as happened in Tepelena, the traffic police should have been "iron" in terms of the measures.
"I don't know if the drivers were under the influence of alcohol or not, but the effect of alcohol increases reaction time and is distracting," he said.
