Journalist Adriatik Doçi has commented on the decision of the Court of Special Appeals, which today sentenced Fredi Beleri to 2 years in prison, thus leaving in force the decision of GJKKO.
He said that this decision was a clear message from Albania to official Athens. Doçi added that it is also a message for Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, who nominated Beler as a candidate for the elections in the Municipality of Himara.
"The decision is a message that justice and Albania gives to official Athens. Also, this decision is also a message for those who are part of the line of Berisha and Ilir Meta. Beleri is fishy and a kind of scenario of Berisha and Meta for certain political purposes, they deliberately ran him in Himara because they could have chosen another representative. He is accused of the Pescopi Massacre and has not yet been punished for that, and this type of character is presented by Meta and Berisha and placed as candidates in Himare," he said.
Doçi also said that this decision was expected, while according to him the way is now open for the elections for the mayor of Himara. The journalist adds that he has no chance to run again as he is subject to the ban provided by the decriminalization law.
"The decision was expected and there have been cases when the Court of Appeal has been tougher than the Court of First Instance, his crime was foreseen up to 5 years in prison. The decision is final and from today Beleri is considered convicted for the crime of active corruption in the elections and with this decision the way is opened for new elections in the municipality of Himara. With this decision the president is automatically set in motion to announce the partial elections in Himara. He can be released from prison September, even if the president announces the elections later, there is no room for him to run anymore because he is subject to the prohibition provided by the decriminalization law", he said for "Report TV".
