Lawyer Ulian Barjami was released from his cell yesterday afternoon, after three days of detention by order of Judicial Police Officers.
His arrest came after a complaint filed by prosecutor Gjergji Ceka, who claimed that he had been threatened by the lawyer during a court session at the Elbasan Court.
Meanwhile, the High Inspectorate of Justice (ILD) has launched an initiative verification on this issue, to examine the legality of the procedural actions that led to Barjam's detention. Today, ILD inspectors arrived in Elbasan to administer the documentation and analyze the circumstances of the detention.
The Elbasan court yesterday ruled for the immediate release of the lawyer, arguing that there was no legal reason for keeping him in solitary confinement. The decision has raised questions and debate among lawyers and the public about how to handle such cases.
Meanwhile, the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office has declared incompetence and sent the case to Tirana for lawyer Ulian Barjami. A conflict of interest has been alleged, as the lawsuit against Barjami was filed by prosecutor Gjergji Ceka, who exercises his function at this prosecutor's office.
