A draft law submitted to the Assembly regarding 'inclusive' gender has caused reactions and opposition from religious communities. In a statement, the Muslim Community of Albania states that such changes, which do not take into account tradition, biological nature and social morality, create more problems than solutions.
" The inclusion of a vague notion, which does not provide clear boundaries and opens the way for multiple interpretations, risks bringing confusion both in the practical application of the law and in the social structure. A society needs clear, understandable and enforceable norms. Such changes, which do not take into account tradition, biological nature and social morality, create more problems than solutions.
From the perspective of the religion you represent, how is the concept of gender identities beyond man-woman viewed?
"According to the Islamic religion, gender is defined by God into two categories: male and female. This principle is clear in the Quran and in the prophetic tradition, and it is directly related to how nature and society function ," a KMSH response states.
According to the statement, the inclusion of vague notions of gender, and especially their granting of legal status, risks weakening the institution of the family, paving the way for misinterpretations in education, employment, and social life.
" A society where the family is weakened is a society that loses cohesion and stability. For this reason, we believe that such changes are not consistent with the fundamental values of the family, but on the contrary, could seriously undermine its future ," the statement said.

First of all, let me inform you that the Muslim Community of Albania was informed about this draft law through this email and then through some news in the online media. This draft law was not consulted with us and we have no information on the manner and basis of its construction.
The CSM views with concern the inclusion of the term “inclusive” in the definition of gender. This change constitutes a departure from the Islamic religious meaning and from the natural and clear meaning of gender, as man and woman, which has always been the basis on which human society is built.
The inclusion of a vague notion, which does not provide clear boundaries and opens the way for multiple interpretations, risks bringing confusion both in the practical application of the law and in the social structure. A society needs clear, understandable and enforceable norms. Such changes, which do not take into account tradition, biological nature and social morality, create more problems than solutions.

According to the Islamic religion, gender is defined by God into two categories: male and female. This principle is clear in the Quran and prophetic tradition, and it is directly related to the way nature and society function.
Below we bring you some verses from the Holy Quran that clearly show the determination of gender:
“O mankind! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you nations and tribes... and from him He made his mates: male and female?! (75:39)
We have created you in pairs. (78:8)
And of every kind of fruit He has created a pair. (13:3)
Allah created you from dust (Adam), then from a drop of sperm, then He made you into pairs. (35:11)
Praise be to Him who created pairs of all kinds: of what grows from the earth, those of themselves and those of them who know not! (36:36)
He who created pairs for every kind of creature… (43:12)
… that He creates pairs, male and female… (53:45)
Was it not a drop of blood that was shed, then it became a clot of blood, then Allah created it and gave it a certain shape and proportions, and made from it its pair: male and female?! (75:37-38-39)
(In brackets is the Surah number and verse number if you need it for orientation.)
Based on these verses, attempting to add or invent other gender identities constitutes a deviation from the truth of creation.
Do you think this change is consistent with family principles and values?
The family in Islamic tradition and Albanian culture is built on the natural union of man and woman. This union is the foundation of creation, the continuity of life and the education of generations. Any concept that relativizes or denies this reality contradicts the principles on which the family is built.
The inclusion of ambiguous notions of gender, and especially their granting of legal status, risks weakening the institution of the family, paving the way for misinterpretations in education, employment, and social life.
A society where the family is weakened is a society that loses cohesion and stability. For this reason, we believe that such changes are not consistent with the fundamental values of the family, but on the contrary, can seriously undermine its future.
Do you think religious institutions should have a more active role in discussions and consultations on such social issues?
Religious institutions have an important role in society, as they represent the faith, tradition, morality and spiritual values of a people. Such sensitive issues, which are directly related to the family, morality and social order, cannot be addressed only at a technical or political level, without taking into account their spiritual and cultural dimension.
For this reason, it is essential that religious institutions be included in the consultation process to contribute to maintaining social balance. Experience has shown that laws that do not take this dimension into account often lead to division and dissatisfaction in society.
