Journalist Klodiana Lala revealed details from Saimir Tahir's testimony before the Special Prosecutors.
The former Minister of the Interior was asked today about the protest organized by the SP on January 21, 2011, where 4 opposition supporters lost their lives from shots fired by members of the Republic Guard.
Lala said that SPAK will call MPs, former MPs, SP leaders as organizers of the protest in the following days. Likewise, officials at the time such as former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, former Minister of the Interior, Lulzim Basha and the head of the police at that time will also testify before SPAK.
She emphasized that the investigations reopened by SPAK for January 21 after the report of the wife of Aleks Nika, who lost his life in this protest, will require 1 year to compile the file and send it to GJKKO.
"For January 21, SPAK has asked a large number of officials and former officials. Yesterday, SP MP Xhemal Qefalia was at the Special Prosecutor's Office. All persons, MPs and former MPs of SP who were organizers of the January 21 demonstration will be called. On the other hand, the highest officials of the time, including former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, will also be questioned, who will provide explanations regarding the killing of 4 protesters. We recall that on January 21, 2011, Faik Myrtaj, Aleks Nika, Hekuran Deda and Ziver Veizi were killed on the National Martyrs Boulevard. Only two of the murders have a perpetrator, while the other two remain without a perpetrator. For this reason, investigations are being carried out by SPAK based on the report of Aleks Nika's widow. Lulzim Basha will also be questioned.
Berisha and Basha are accused by the widow of Aleks Nika of being responsible for the killing of the protesters. It will take 1 year to complete the investigation and to have a final verdict regarding the responsibility of the persons who may have had connections or may have ordered the January 21 murders. In the murder of Ziver Veiz and Faik Myrtaj, Agim Llupo and Ndrea Prendi were convicted, the sentences were low for manslaughter, a decision that was met with many criticisms. Next year, it is expected that there will be a finalization of the investigations and a verdict from SPAK on this matter", said Lala.
A few days ago SPAK interrogated the former commander of the Republic Guard, Ndrea Prendi, as well as the former Director General of the State Police, Hysni Burgaj.
