Former dictator's villa on fire

The Minister of Culture, Blendi Gonxhe, has reacted after the incident recorded near Villa 31, known as the former residence of Enver Hoxha and currently an artistic residency center in collaboration with the international foundation ArtExplora.

In a public reaction, Gonxhe described the event as serious and unacceptable, emphasizing that foreign artists and people were in the building as part of an international program.

" It is absolutely revolting to see how Molotov cocktails are thrown at a building where there are artists, people, life and creativity inside. Attacking an international art center like ArtExplora is an unacceptable act that damages the image of Albania ," the minister said.

According to him, the facility now functions as a space for artistic residencies and international cultural projects. Gonxhe announced that at the time of the incident, there were 12 artists inside, most of them foreigners, who, according to him, were evacuated without consequences.

Full reaction

It is absolutely revolting to see how the political blindness of a desperate opposition stops at nothing, launching massive Molotov cocktails at a building where there are artists, people, life and creativity inside! To viciously attack an international art center like ArtExplora, one of the most prestigious foundations in the world for supporting talent and artistic residencies, is an act of terrorism that tends to take us back to the darkest ages of grace and destruction.

Today, within those walls there is no longer ideological isolation, but a studio where elite artists from all over the world have chosen to live and create. This villa, transformed into a temple of free thought, is evidence of our triumph over dictatorship and today's violence is an attack on our civilization that raises consciousness over memory. 12 artists, most of them foreigners, including young people who come from war-torn countries and who have experienced trauma, precisely because the program also has a social and solidarity nature, were there today, fortunately without consequences, while we are informing and reassuring the families. An artistic community that lives and works in that facility to materialize freedom was terrorized today by anti-freedom!

This is not oppositionism, this is an open and ugly aggression against the new image of Albania and our international friends! This treacherous act of vandalism shows the true face of an opposition that feeds only on destruction! They want to see Albania covered in smoke and mud, because they cannot stand our resurgence, they cannot stand the success of a country that is becoming a reference point for culture and tourism!

You can throw Molotov cocktails, but you can't burn the spirit of freedom. Vila31 x ArtExplora and our artists in residence will not be defeated by fear and this country will not allow backwardness and political violence to take Albania's European future hostage! We will follow closely if this time the prosecution will forgive, as if without harm, a crime against life!
