Basements of buildings under water, residents: Extensive damage and danger to

Recent rainfall has caused flooding in the basements of several buildings built in recent years in the "Besëlidhja" neighborhood of the city of Lezha.

According to residents, the flooding has filled basements with over 2.5 meters of water, causing material damage and creating constant concern. They say the situation repeats itself every time there is heavy rainfall, while the presence of water for several days endangers the structures of buildings and the safety of children.

"It's become a problem here every time it rains. The flood comes from Millennium to the main well. The water comes from the city here. The elevator that cost 6900 Euros has also burned down. The basements are filled with over 2.5 meters of water. No one is taking care of it. The wells are full and uncleaned. They are open. The solution is with large pipes but they haven't even included it in the project," said a resident.

Another resident emphasized that the problem has worsened after changes in infrastructure.

"The presence of water is a big problem because it has burned our elevator, blocked our road. The problem is the water that collects at the roundabout and comes here. It used to be a drainage canal, but after the road was built, the water from the entire city collects here. Every time it rains, it fills up with water," he said.

Residents attribute the situation to unregulated construction and the lack of a clear flood protection plan. As a solution, they see the investment that has been underway for months for the sewage and wastewater system throughout the city of Lezha, hoping that the intervention will avoid repeated flooding in the area.
