In the early hours of Sunday, journalist Sami Curri's vehicle was engulfed in flames. The burning of the car was classified by local police as a deliberate act, and investigations have begun. But even though more than 24 hours have passed since this crime, there is still no identification and arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators.
The burning of journalist Curri's vehicle is a threatening message, perhaps the first step of the aggressors or those who ordered it.
The journalist's vehicle was parked about 30 meters from the building where he lives with his mother, while according to the public testimony given by Curri, he was notified a few minutes after the "Ford Fiesta" was engulfed in flames.
Authorities said an investigative group, under the direction of the prosecutor's office, is working to identify the perpetrators and document the circumstances of the case.
" The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is intensively pursuing actions to clarify and legally document the case, identify and hold the perpetrators legally accountable, as deliberate arson is suspected," the police officially announced.

Journalist Curri runs the local media outlet "Bulqiza ime" and a little research on this website is enough to perhaps create the first clues as to who might be suspected of being behind the threat that was made to him through the burning of his car.
About a week before their vehicle was burned, a news story was published in the local media run by Curri about a police operation that led to the arrest of a Bulgarian citizen, a local official, and a former official, who were suspected of being involved in the Bulgarian passport forgery scheme.
“Gjatë ditës së sotme, forca të shumta policie janë parë në godinën e Bashkisë Bulqizë, ku janë kryer veprime hetimore dhe është bërë marrja e dokumenteve që lidhen me çështjen e falsifikimit të dokumenteve për pajisjen me pasaporta bullgare. Në një tjetër artikull, të publikuar rreth 3 javë më parë në median lokale të drejtuar nga Curri, denoncoheshin tenderat e Bashkisë së Bulqizës lidhur me ujësjellësin.
“Që nga momenti kur Festime Mjeshtri mori drejtimin e Bashkisë Bulqizë në shtator 2023, për fazën e dytë të ujësjellësit të Gjoricës janë kryer katër pagesa të rëndësishme nga thesari, me një vlerë totale prej 71,446,815 lekësh.
Kjo shumë përfshin likuidimin e 23,535,397 lekëve në dhjetor 2023, më pas 1,862,409 lekë në prill 2024, pagesën e situacionit përfundimtar prej 34,587,660 lekësh në gusht 2024, si dhe në fund 11,461,349 lekë në tetor 2025, që përfaqëson pagesën e garancisë 5% të punimeve. Në praktikë, afro 31% e gjithë vlerës së fazës së dytë prej 229.2 milionë lekësh është likuiduar gjatë administrimit të saj, në një periudhë kur qytetarët vijonin të ankoheshin se rrjeti nuk përdorej për shkak të ndotjes dhe mungesës së sigurisë për konsum”, thuhej ndër të tjera në artikull.
Në një tjetër shkrim, që shënjestronte Bashkinë e Bulqizës, media lokale e drejtuar nga Curri denonconte dhënien në përdorim të një sipërfaqeje prej j 21 hektarësh nga fondi pyjor/kullosor në fshatin Lubalesh, Njësia Administrative Gjoricë, për ndërtimin e një parku me aerogjeneratorë dhe panele fotovoltaike.
“Sipas dokumenteve të publikuara në Buletinin e Njoftimeve Publike të Agjencisë së Prokurimit Publik, ankandi është zhvilluar më 23 shkurt 2026 me procedurë të hapur, ndërsa objekti i tij ishte dhënia në përdorim e tokës për ndërtimin e infrastrukturës së prodhimit të energjisë së rinovueshme, përfshirë stacionet, bazamentet dhe objektet mbështetëse. Lidhja e kontratës për këtë ankand është bërë në datë 9 mars.
Vlera fillestare e ankandit ishte 176 mijë lekë për hektar në vit, që për sipërfaqen prej 21 hektarësh arrinte në rreth 3.69 milionë lekë në vit. Oferta fituese u shpall në vlerën 3,698,100 lekë në vit.

According to the procedure, economic operators submit their bids and the winner is declared the entity offering the highest price, while the decision-making for the use of these areas is made by the Municipal Council and the contract is concluded by the municipality with the winning entity according to the conditions set out in the auction documentation ," the article said.
In October 2025, Festime Mjeshtri announced that it would auction off 52 more plots from the forest fund for livestock stables, guesthouses or photovoltaic parks. It is not known how many of these have been approved to date.
The violation of the law in the Martanesh case was so clear that the mayor herself was forced to publicly admit that she had not respected the consultation procedure. But she did not cancel the tender, did not apologize, and no institution called her to account.
Referring to the denunciations that Curri has made at different times, perhaps the investigative group can include them as evidence not simply to discover the perpetrator but the one behind him, the one who gave the order.
" This is a message of intimidation, but I want to say it clearly: those who committed this act will not be able to threaten me or stop me. For me, journalism is not just a profession, but a mission in service to the public and I will continue to practice it with the same dedication, at any cost."
For weeks now, we have been facing constant attempts to influence and exert pressure on our work, especially on topics we have covered and those that are still in the reporting process. However, every concern of citizens, every concern of a resident whose life, property or rights are affected, will always find our door open and the necessary space to be heard.
"Protecting the public interest, environmental issues, community problems and protests that arise in every corner of Dibra have found and will continue to find a place in my reporting. This is and will remain my main mission at all times: to be on the side of the public and the truth ," was the message Curri gave after the car was burned.
