The exporting company Sokolaj shpk declared the cargo of hazardous waste to customs as iron oxide.

Capital publishes the photos of the customs declaration, according to which it turns out that the company based in Durrës has exported 2 thousand 800 tons, declaring it as iron oxide and hydroxide, i.e. a harmless product.

From the customs declaration it is clear that the papers are fake, as on one side Iron Oxide is written and on the other side the chemical symbol ZN is placed, which coincides with zinc. According to the statement, it turns out that the recipient of the cargo is the company Gs Minerals Doo, a Croatian company based in Rijeka, which is also owned by the Sokolaj family.

The waste is produced by Kurum company. The suspicions are that their passage was made possible thanks to the corruption of the structures of the customs investigation in Tirana and those of the shift in the port, considering all the containers as zinc oxide, with an analysis sheet of the subject Sokolaj shpk.

It is also suspected that Kompania Kurum has used Sokoloj shpk to avoid responsibility from itself and both companies have jointly cheated with sales invoices of oxides, when in fact within the load, a part of over 800 tons, was furnace dust, which is considered dangerous waste , even though Kurum says it acted in accordance with the law.

Sources told Kapital that customs and especially their head, Gent Gazheli, have been informed since July about the waste scandal, but have not acted. The inaction adds more to the suspicions about the serious compromise of this institution, while the scandal of illegal waste traffic is expected to expand further, as it is suspected that metal processing companies in Albania based in Durrës have been importing aluminum slag for years declaring as scrap.

Aluminum slag is a very dangerous waste, causing high contamination and endangering the health of the population, especially if processed without proper filters. / Capital
