Northern Albania is at risk of facing traffic difficulties due to significant damage to the bridge over the Mat River, which is located on the Milot-Lezha highway. Images provided show that the bridge legs have suffered serious damage, raising concerns for the safety of passengers and the stability of the structure.
Environmental expert Jak Gjini explains that the diversion of the river's flow and uncontrolled erosion have disrupted natural balances, endangering not only this bridge, but also other structures on the Mat River, including the Zogu Bridge. According to experts, if timely intervention is not made, the stability of the bridge and the normal functioning of this important road axis could be jeopardized.
Residents of the area say the problem has been going on for years and is related to the exploitation of inert materials from the river, with over 20 companies operating in the area. According to them, this activity has significantly increased the risk of structural damage and bridge collapse.
A similar situation was recorded a few months ago with the Milot Bridge, where traffic was completely interrupted on July 24, 2025, causing traffic congestion in the Lezha area and negatively affecting the tourism sector.
