The well-known lawyer, Romeo Kara, has commented on the arrest of former president Ilir Meta. The privatization of the former OSSH and CEZ and the CEZ-DIA pact" "are the most serious corrupt affairs in the country. The lawyer Romeo Kara is the first person to have denounced the "CEZ-DIA" scandal and opened the "Pandora's Box" in the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK) for Ilir Meta as far as this affair is concerned.
During a statement for the "SOT" newspaper, Kara shows what is expected to happen now with Mr. Meta, where according to him, the possibility of seizing the assets worth millions of euros of the former president, or expanding the investigations for his collaborators, is not excluded.
He even emphasized that Meta's arrest is expected to shake the foundations of the Albanian political class.
"The arrest of Ilir Meta is a historic, meaningful and hopeful moment that justice will finally win its citizenship in Albania. Today, corruption, this social cancer and hostage-taker of institutions and the fate of Albanians, received a significant blow. No one is unpunished anymore. The entire post-90s political establishment is reeling, seeing that their time of abuse of power is now coming to an end.
We have believed in justice as a concept and a divine right, and today we are looking at one of the fruits of this belief. While there is a legitimate hope for the people, for the corrupt leader Meta and his ilk, the ordeal of facing justice has just begun. Let's hope that we will have a fair and public judicial process, where the truth will be revealed and a fair decision will be made. I would like this process to be faster and also to seize the endless assets of the Meta couple, assets that belong to Albanians. Let's hope that, in the future, this will also be realized.
Also, I hope that there will be other charges related to him and his gang, which has been getting rich at the expense of honest Albanians for decades. This is just the beginning. We will have other events afterwards, giving hope to the Albanians that this country can be built, that justice is not a forbidden apple for them, that dignity has the cost of facing God's way and that faith in victory will one day to be rewarded", said lawyer Kara for "SOT" newspaper.

Meanwhile, lawyer Romeo Kara expressed his belief that this is a very important day for Albanian citizens as well. After more than 30 years, he emphasized, the citizens are seeing that hostage-taking has ended. Also, he added that there are eight other businessmen involved in the "CEZ-DIA" affair. "I said that one day will come, that there will be an end to this hostage-taking by government officials who have taken hostages. We had all our predisposition to strengthen the voice in the public and in the justice bodies that we want justice. We are forever enslaved by Albanian politics. As for the businessman, whose name came up, I don't know, but I can say that there are 8 businessmen, some big oligarchs, they are big. We know how these people are raised. But nothing is impossible even facing them. Even the sale of alcoholic beverages has increased today at dinner, people raised a toast", he said, adding: "This is the life trial of Meta and Gjokutaj, let's see if they will win or not.
Djokutaj's statements
The lawyer also commented on the statement made by Ilir Meta's lawyer, Gjokutaj, saying that he made a false report. The lawyer said that he did not make a false report at all and that all the facts are there. He further underlined that the lawyer Genc Gjokutaj would have to spare himself from the statements. "He never told me that I made a false report. But I am sure he will lose this case. The facts are there. If it was a false report, the Prosecutor's Office would have closed it, but it has been so many years and they could have said it. But today is the first time. I am more real than Genci and all the Genci of Albania", he emphasized. He further added that SPAK possesses all the facts about Meta's villas abroad.
"SPAK has all the information. I can say that this affair has been blessed by Ilir Meta. Meta's "caecum" is the second voice in Meta's madness. What are they financed with? I don't start battles to leave them. Today, I think that this is a victory for all Albanians, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. People just want justice. Justice is needed in every aspect of life. According to the law, I am able to file a report, and I am convinced and invite all the talkers of Meta to see where I live", underlined the jurist Romeo Kara.
