A 28-year-old woman died yesterday after a surgical intervention at the American Hospital.
Irida Hasalla had undergone liposuction surgery, or fat removal.
The Police of Tirana informs that under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, the investigative group has been set up and the first procedural actions have been carried out, such as the autopsy, the questioning of the family members, the questioning of the doctors and the anesthetist who participated in the operation.
"Yesterday, on 30.01.2024, a notification was received that in a private hospital, after an operation, the citizen IH, 28 years old, living in Tirana, died.
After receiving the notification, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, the investigation group was set up and the first procedural actions were carried out, such as the autopsy, the questioning of the family members, the questioning of the doctors and the anesthetist who participated in the operation.
The materials will be handed over to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana, for further procedural actions," the police announced.
Meanwhile, according to family members, 31-year-old Irida Hasalla also suffered from a tumor in her uterus, for which she was treated in Belgium, but the doctors at the American Hospital told her that this intervention would not affect her condition.
Arenc Hasalla, the victim's brother, in a statement to the media, accused the doctor Rezarta Kapaj of being responsible, stating that she undertook the operation, despite knowing the situation.
"My sister was admitted to the American Hospital and had an operation that she was not allowed to do. She was being treated in Belgium for cancer. He did the operation for weight loss. The doctor did it with my sister's wish and without the parents' signature. The doctor was aware of everything because he had the card. The sister appeared at the resuscitation today and it is very bad, there is no hope. I call on the competent bodies to take measures for the doctor Rezarta Kapaj. The sister comes to get well, pays another 2 thousand euros and dies", said the brother of the 28-year-old.
A few hours after the appeal, the fate of the young girl was tragic. She died in the American Hospital, even though she paid thousands of euros for an operation that the doctors should not have undertaken, due to the disease she had.
Currently, the young woman's body is in the morgue where an autopsy is being performed, while the family has reported to police station no. 4 for negligent medication.
