Interior Minister Taulant Balla has spoken about the extradition of wanted citizens from countries with which Albania still does not have an extradition agreement, such as the case of Dubai.
He said that he has started an intensive cooperation with Interpol to find the persons declared wanted by Albanian justice, and that in the meantime work is being done to open new opportunities for cooperation with the countries with which we do not yet have an extradition agreement.
"You have seen that a few months ago we started intensive cooperation with Interpol, against organized crime and finding persons wanted by Albanian justice. We closed 2023 with an extradition from Morocco. A country that does not have an extradition agreement. We are working to open new communication paths with countries that we do not have an agreement with. The instruments established by Interpol make it possible for us to use other methods, even with countries that we do not have an agreement with, simplified extradition, it is about a method that has communication with Interpol Tirana and Interpol Abu Dhabi. The party from Abu Dhabi brings it to Dubai airport, then it is sent to Rinas airport by plane. After 1 month, after we are negotiating, I will be officially in the United Arab Emirates, to further the need in the field of extraditions to take this step forward. We are also negotiating a financing agreement in Albania for the monitoring system with road cameras and radars", said Balla.
