The application deadline for the position of Director General of the State Police has ended. 14 candidates have expressed interest in running the blue information service.
Applications for the position of Director General of the State Police are closed, following the departure of Ilir Proda from the leadership of the institution. 14 police officers and leaders have submitted their candidacies in the race for this position, aiming to take over the highest order structure in the country.
The process now enters the phase of verification of documentation by the Special Commission, before the candidates move on to the interview and final selection phase.
According to the established procedures, the submitted files will be subject to a legal review that is expected to last about 10 days. Candidates who meet the criteria will proceed to the interview phase.
At the end of this process, the list of selected candidates will be presented to the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, who will follow the further steps of the procedure for the appointment of the new head of the State Police.

Wednesday, March 11, was the last day when candidates could submit documentation to participate in the race.
All candidates for Director General are officials with experience in the structures of the State Police and aim to lead the institution for a five-year term, as defined by law.
Among the names that have submitted their candidacy is Pëllumb Seferi , currently the Director of International Relations at the State Police. He is known for his involvement in coordinating several extradition operations in recent years.
Also in the running is Elidon Çela , the current director of the Vlora Police. In the past, he headed the Police Supervision Agency in Tirana and held several leadership positions within the police structures.
Another candidate is Skënder Hitaj , the director of the Fier Police, who has previously held leadership positions in the Shkodër and Dibër regions.
Meanwhile, the list of applicants also includes Idajet Faskaj , who during his career has held high management positions in the State Police.
The former director of the Tirana Police, Tonin Vocaj, has returned to the scene and has applied for the position of General Director of the State Police. Tonin Vocaj left the leadership of the Tirana Police in 2024 and held the position for about 2 years. Despite the fact that he became part of the race in 2024, for the regional director, he could not be elected after he was ranked penultimate, unable to secure the necessary points.
