Frrok Çupi: I tell you the conflict with Sali Berisha in the newspaper

Frrok Çupi has spoken about the conflict with former Prime Minister Sali Berisha while he was the editor-in-chief of the first opposition newspaper "Rilindja Demokratike".

Invited to the Dekalog show by Roland Qafoku on Dritare TV, he said that the conflict with Berisha had started because of the interventions he wanted to make in the newspaper.

" I was the first to leave the Democratic Party, even though I was one of the founders and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Rilindja Demokratike". I left in August 1991, after I wrote an article where I pointed out that Sali Berisha and Enver Hoxha were the same. My conflict with Berisha started because of the interventions he wanted to make in the newspaper. At the time, the printing press ran on lead, a process that took from morning to midnight to produce the newspaper. We had built a strong wall so that the party did not interfere with the newspaper, and Berisha was the only one who knew that he was preparing to have power in his hands. He has used wild manipulations to achieve his goals. For example, he announced a "coup d'état" at the United School, even though it was not true. He did this to say that "I, Mao Zedong, saved the country" and to create a halo around himself, so that people would cheer Enver Hoxha like they used to. This was the reason why he demanded that the entire issue of the newspaper be dedicated to the "coup". I contradicted him and told him that no coup d'état had taken place, and if we pretended otherwise, we would be doing a great harm, since we were creating a "Democratic Party" with Middle Eastern methods, which only lowered the image of democracy. . Berisha pretended to withdraw. It was 3 or 5 o'clock and I went to take a short break, after I had been in the newsroom for many hours. He had gone in and published the news of the coup d'état. When I came back, I found it there. I reminded him that we had sworn for democracy, not to follow the politics of Enver Hoxha. I asked him to leave the newspaper independent. I also asked the typographer to remove the writing and continue with the regular content of the newspaper, which belonged to the readers, not the party. After 6 months, I was fired. Raisson, the American ambassador to Albania, requested a meeting after I left. We met in Dajt, where Berisha proposed to Raisson to appoint me ambassador to Washington or give me another high post. At that time, there were people walking on the boulevard and I said: "Listen to me, I'm sure these people will make you president", despite the fact that today he is the leader of the opposition. I did not understand how he could propose me as an ambassador and I did not accept the offer ", said Çupi
