The State Police reacted after the arrest of Gëzim Çelaj, also known as the "drug baron" in Kosovo. The police clarifies that the international police operation, codenamed "Sad End", was developed as a result of cooperation between the Albanian Police, the Kosovo Police and the law enforcement agencies of strategic partner countries.
The 55-year-old was also wanted internationally by Interpol Rome, Italy, since in 2012, the Italian judicial authorities sentenced him to 19 years, 9 months and 29 days of imprisonment, for committing the criminal offenses of "Organizer of illegal migration" and " Criminal organization for the exploitation of prostitution", provided by the Italian Criminal Code.
" The international police operation coded "Sad End", was developed as a result of cooperation between the Albanian Police, the Kosovo Police and the law enforcement agencies of strategic partner countries.
As a result of this operation, a citizen wanted for years by Albanian and Italian justice was captured and arrested in Kosovo.
The structures of the State Police, after providing information from the police intelligence, in Ferizaj, Kosovo, a citizen wanted for years by the Albanian and Italian justice was hiding, immediately exchanged the information with the Kosovo Police and the law enforcement agencies of the strategic partner countries.
The Kosovo Police, based on the information received from the Albanian Police, organized and finalized the coded police operation "Sad End", during which, in Ferizaj, the citizen was caught and put in handcuffs:
Gëzim Çelaj (Çela), 55 years old, born and resident in Krujë.
This citizen was declared wanted, after the Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, Tirana, assigned the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Trafficking of narcotics", carried out in collaboration, within the framework of to the structured criminal group and "Commitment of criminal offenses by the criminal organization and the structured criminal group".
In addition, this citizen was declared an international wanted by Interpol Tirana, after the former Court of Serious Crimes has sentenced him to 10 years and 8 months of imprisonment, for the criminal offenses "Trafficking in narcotics" and "Producing and possessing weapons without permission and war munitions", since:
- On 12.06.2014, in the early hours of the morning, a RH citizen was caught red-handed with the narcotic substance cocaine, which was sent from Kosovo to Albania, on account of the citizen Gëzim Çelaj. In the apartments of the latter, in Kurbin and in Tirana, checks were carried out and 207 kg of cannabis sativa, 22 kg of heroin, 500 grams of cocaine and 14 firearms of various types were found and seized.
The 55-year-old was also wanted internationally by Interpol Rome, Italy, since in 2012, the Italian judicial authorities sentenced him to 19 years, 9 months and 29 days of imprisonment, for committing the criminal offenses of "Organizer of illegal migration" and " "Criminal organization for the exploitation of prostitution", provided by the Criminal Code of Italy ", says the official police response.
