Analyst and journalist Mentor Kikia has commented on the race for the Municipality of Tirana, where the Democratic Party, together with other opposition forces, have supported the candidacy of actor and activist Florjan Binaj, facing Ogerta Manastirliu of the Socialist Party.
Kikia said that Manastirliun is a traditional candidate, with a long career in politics and public administration, emphasizing her experience at the highest levels of government.
"Manastirliu is a traditional candidate, a career politician and a high-level administrative official with years of experience," the analyst continued.
As for Florjan Binaj, Kikia said that he comes from outside the political system, which can be seen as an advantage, as he does not hold previous responsibilities in the administration.
"Florjan Binaj is a man who comes from outside politics, without a career and without responsibility in public administration, and this can be seen as a favor, because there is no element from which he can be attacked in this regard," said Kikia.
He stated that the challenges Binaj faces in changing public perception are the transition from a figure known as an actor and member of civil society to a serious political alternative.
"He needs to break some barriers of the Albanian mentality, because no matter how much they like him as an actor, they will have to see him as a person in politics," Kikia added.
According to him, the DP's decision to support Binaj is an attempt to unite the opposition vote, after the failure to maximize the result in the May 11 elections.
"The election of Binaj and his support by the DP is an attempt to unite the opposition votes in Tirana, because it was also seen in the May 11 elections that the vote was dispersed and not maximized to transform into power," he told "News 24".
