'Gërdeci'/ The witness and the ex-soldier tell how the flames

Today, the next hearing on the tragedy of Gërdec is taking place at GJKKO, as witnesses and former employees are being questioned.

In today's session at the Special Court, Murat Zguri also testified as part of the testimony about the Gërdec tragedy.

During his statement, Zguri said that his wife was also at work, adding that he left the work tools at the house of another worker.

"I was a truck driver. My house is 100 meters away from Qemal Deli's house.

My wife worked there with gunpowder. I had a soldering iron, my work tools were at Qemal's house. He has had the soldering iron at home longer than I have. I don't know what he used it for", he declared.

At this moment, lawyer Saimir Visha intervened. "He had a welder at his house. Usta was careful, but I don't know if he used it for Gërdec. I saw him welding in the basement."

Regarding the minutes of 2008, lawyer Matliaj contradicts the witness, says that he saw Qemal Deli welding in the back of the house.

Julian Pando, another worker at the weapons dismantling company.

"I was hired by Dritan Minxolli. My job was to collect the gunpowder. I was in charge of a group. I shouldn't have left too much gunpowder on the square. My supervisor was Veiz Muca. The wall was the only machine we had. In the first stage, gunpowder was collected in buckets, in the second stage in sacks. We were instructed to be careful during the first phase. There was no schedule for the collection of gunpowder, only when the quantity was made. It was lunchtime, I didn't see what happened, I saw the fire and left. The former soldiers told us to be careful, because it was dangerous. We had fixed fire hands, big and small. I had no training. There was a fire earlier, we extinguished it with fire extinguishers and water.

On the day of the explosion, I did not see anyone trying to put out the fire, that day there was more gunpowder than other days. There were wheelbarrows that transported gunpowder. I don't know how the transport was done. Small fires were caused by the collision of cartridges, so there should not be gunpowder on the ground. The fire on the day of the explosion was large, not managed with water and fixed. I said, this flame is not extinguished. The amount of shells was greater than the capacity of the workers. I didn't have a contract", he declares.

Petrit Behari, military specialist shows how the dismantling was done.

"They told us we would have 5 groups, but we ended up with 20. I took care that the burning did not touch the cartridge. Dismantling of 100 mm shells was done with the strength of the arm against the wall. Dritan Minxolli looked at us with hatred, I don't know why. In the other countries where he worked, we did briefings, but not in Gërdec. There were no rules, there everything was without rules. We told Mihal that there are too many cartridges. Mihali said, we will select them, that it is the beginning, but there the amount of gunpowder became bigger every day. Gunpowder was transported by cart. There were cases when the carts broke down, the next day they arrived welded. At the moment of the explosion, I see flames from the entrance. "Such a quantity of gunpowder cannot be put out with a fire extinguisher, I should have left," said Behari.
