Trial in Germany, Albanian cocaine trafficker: This is how the prosecutor

A drug trafficker has made strong statements during a trial that has begun in Hanover District Court, implicating the prosecutor.

Will the testimony given by the trafficker, as he accused the prosecutor's representative of corruption, 'bury' the prosecutor?

Albanian Besim M., 41, who has numerous criminal records, is serving a 6-year prison sentence for drug trafficking since October 2024. According to his statement, in a meeting at Lake Maschsee in Hanover, the alleged boss of the cocaine mafia revealed the criminal's identity to him.

The defendant, public prosecutor Yashar G., who recently celebrated his 40th birthday while in custody, listened to the witness with a stern expression. He is accused of providing information to Germany's largest drug syndicate, including surveillance and raids, in exchange for money.

The gang was discovered when it tried to smuggle 16 tons of cocaine out of the port of Hamburg. The lead investigator against the group was Yashar G., from the Hanover public prosecutor's office.

The gang is said to have smuggled up to 23 tons of cocaine from South America.

"I first met him in a Greek restaurant in 2019," Besim M. told the judge. He said he did not know G. at the time and knew nothing about his role. He was introduced to him in a close circle as "a friend of ours."

Further encounters followed, including in the attendance area of a Hannover 96 match. "He was having a good time and a little drunk," the Albanian recalled.

Besim M., who claims to be a confidant of suspected drug boss Konstantinos S. (42), claims to have learned the truth from the German-Greek during a walk in Maschsee.

"He told me it was a public prosecutor who was paying him and mentioned the name Yashar. This was really a scandal. A police officer is doable. But a public prosecutor? That was dangerous. Very few people knew about it."

S. reportedly told him that he paid the spy 5,000 euros per month for information. Before his arrest, Konstantinos S. had fled to Dubai.

To avoid the fact that the traders were talking about a public prosecutor in the gangsters' coded chat "Sky EÇ", they are said to have used "Cop" (in English for: police officer) as a code name for Yashar G. According to Besim M., they also added a "police officer emoji" for camouflage.

How dangerous are these statements for the prosecutor?

Yashar G. reacted angrily: "The story has a small grain of truth. However, the witness has created a very sophisticated lie around it." His defense lawyer, Timo Rahn, told Bild that "we have a very suspicious statement."
