A serious incident occurred in Korça yesterday afternoon, where three children aged 3, 7 and 10 were taken by their families to the Pediatrics Department of Korça Hospital, after they were suspected of having consumed cannabis candy.
Today, Chief of Pediatrics Robert Rado provided details on the health condition of the minor girls.
Rado said that the 3-year-old girl was in serious condition and had to be intubated, while the other two are out of danger.
The case has been described as the first of its kind in the country for such young children, while doctors warn of the serious risks that these substances pose in pediatric age groups.
"10-year-old girl in good condition, 7-year-old girl with normal parameters. 3-year-old girl in serious condition due to substances that affect the nervous system. The candies contained cannabis. Use in pediatric age is fatal. We have not had this at such an age. It was the first case. The 3-year-old girl has come out of intubation, maintains parameters within the norms. These substances have a long-term effect. They are eliminated up to 15 days.
"They have consumed two candies each. Laboratory tests will show the level of narcotics in the blood," said the pediatrician.
