Bonus malus, or in other words, a system that adjusts the level of the vehicle insurance premium, based on the insured's damage history, has entered into force. Punishment or reward this will be the regulation for all vehicle users from 2025.
Artur Ribaj, former director of the supervision department at the AMF explains how it will be done in the first year of implementation.
" With the coefficient of one, we are talking about year 0 of damages. Damages will be recorded from January 2025 and then from January 2026 it will be seen whether the problem of causing damage by the insured will be a bonus or a malus. During this period, the coefficient will not affect badly or well ", said Artur Ribaj, former director of the Department of Supervision.
The regulation also contains several risk factors beyond the damages that will be registered. Such as the motor power, the age of the driver, his driving experience, the use of the vehicle, the county of the vehicle registration as well as the age of the car. Young age, low experience or old car are all considered risks that make insurance more expensive.
" All factors start to apply from January 1. What is important, insurance companies are working to automate the system. Let's not leave it to the agents. To have a system where we see clearly and transparently what you will pay", said Artur Ribaj, former director of the Department of Supervision.
Will the history of damages caused years ago be taken into account? "Actually no, it was judged that way despite the fact that the damage history can be found. But this kind of approach remains ", said Artur Ribaj.
The "bonus malus" system - from the Latin, reward or punish - was attempted to be applied in 2019 as well as in 2021, where the new law was also approved, but without success. Through this system, it is intended to increase the responsibility of drivers. / A2 Television
