The suffering of patients from mistakes in public and private clinics has led to Inside Story, brought by Sali Lela. At the age of 22, he spent 50,000 euros to cure and normalize his vision, but today, he is left with only one eye.
All as a result of a fatal error in the medical procedures followed by the ophthalmologists of a private clinic in Tirana, who never admitted their guilt.
The odyssey of young Lela starts in 2019. After a successful operation on the left eye, the clinic suggests an operation on the right eye as well. This operation turns out to be fatal for the young Lela, as he completely loses the sight of his right eye. Then, he begins the process of placing a prosthesis.
"I wore glasses from the age of 10 until the age of 21-22 when I went to the Uzllova clinic. I had trouble with my left eye. I had poor vision and needed intervention. I consulted with Dr. Andrea. After visiting me, he told me that you need intervention" - said Sali Lela, whistleblower.
Patient Lela decided to be operated on in the clinic in question, while other private health institutions specialized in the field of ophthalmology did not undertake it. Apparently, his case presented a high risk.
"Other clinics told me not to do the intervention until the age of 25, while the Russian doctor Andrea told me that it is done immediately. I needed an operation on my left eye and a lens fitted. The operation was stopped after two weeks" - said whistleblower Sali Lela.
The first operation went well. The doctor decided that Saliu should undergo a second operation on his right eye a month after the first operation. This is precisely where the error is thought to have occurred.
" The right eye had 80-90% vision. We said why bother? He said that both numbers should go equally. to make both crystals the same. I went as in the first operation, the same procedures. I entered the room, the operation continued, the anesthesia was total, the other eye with local anesthesia. After the eye was opened, the anesthesia came out. Strong, unbearable pains have started there. They tied my legs and hands, held me until they calmed me down and put me under anesthesia again. I came out after 4 hours "- said Lela/ InsideStory
