The Institute of Geosciences (IGJEO) has warned that the risk of forest fires will remain high today and Monday, calling on authorities and citizens to exercise maximum caution.
According to the forecast published by the institute, the regions of Fier, Lezha and Durrës are the most at-risk areas, where the risk level for the spread of fires is assessed as high.
Meanwhile, a moderate level of risk is predicted for the regions of Shkodra, Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Vlora and Gjirokastër. However, IGJEO emphasizes that in some areas of these regions the risk may be locally high, specifically south of Shkodra, west of Tirana, west of Elbasan, west of Berat and northwest of Vlora.
In the regions of Kukës, Dibër and Korçë, the risk level is expected to be low.
Regarding meteorological conditions, maximum temperatures on Monday are expected to reach 31°C on the coast, 34°C in low-lying areas and 27°C in mountainous areas. The wind will blow light to moderate, but at certain intervals it is expected to be strong in mountainous and coastal areas, a factor that could favor the spread of flames in the event of fires.
The IGJEO warning comes at a time when several regions of the country, especially Fier and Lezha, have been faced with large-scale fires in recent hours, which have required the intervention of firefighting forces and helicopters of the Armed Forces.
