Albania is expected to start discussions on the first chapter of EU membership, that on fundamental rights, in October of this year.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, announced the news in Budapest, during the Interparliamentary Conference on the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defense Policy.
" Albania has made deep reforms, especially in justice, while there are no other conditions from EU member countries" , he declared.
Varhelyi emphasized that the sooner we fully integrate the Balkan countries, the stronger and more stable the stability on the European continent will be.
"In these years, we have made important decisions for the opening of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia, holding the first intergovernmental conferences with them. I hope that next month we will open the first chapter of negotiations on basic issues with Albania and possibly also with North Macedonia, depending on the approval of the constitutional changes ", concluded Varhelyi.
