After many years of silence and absence from public life, Albanian sports legend Silva Turdiu has decided to speak out. And not about ordinary issues, but to give her public support to one of the candidates in the May 11 parliamentary elections.
In a long and touching post on social media, the former Dinamo volleyball player, one of the most beloved figures for Albanians, announces her support for Jorida Tabaku, the Democratic Party MP running on the open list for the Tirana district.
"For many years I have chosen not to be publicly active in the Albanian media, even though my emotional connection to Albania has remained unchanged. This time, however, I have decided to speak out and give my public support to Jorida Tabaku," Turdiu writes.
The reason? It's not only personal, but also very human.
"I have experienced firsthand what it means to face injustice, oppression, and lack of freedom. Therefore, when I see a woman standing up to injustice and speaking out with integrity, I cannot remain silent," she continues.
Silva describes Jorida as a politician who does not give up, who protects citizens and who represents hope for a more honest and dignified Albania. Long established in the diaspora, Silva Turdiu mentions the importance of active participation in democracy and her decision to support a figure who represents her values.
"For a noble, just and magnificent Albania," she concludes the message, bringing to attention not only political support, but a symbolic act that comes from a voice that for decades has been identified with strength, dignity and courage.
